| With the ratification of the Chinese
Government, China Council for International Cooperation
on Environment and Development (CCICED) was established
in 1992. CCICED is a high level international advisory
board to the Government of China. The Chairman of CCICED
is a leader of the State Council of P. R. China
(currently it is Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan). The mandate
of CCICED is to put forth policy recommendations and
carry out policy and project demonstrations on major and
urgent issues in the field of environment and
development in China. Members of the Council include
ministers and vice ministers from the relevant
ministries of the State Council, well-known experts and
professors in the field of environment and development
in and abroad, as well as ministers from other countries
and the leaders of international organizations. |

| The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of China
Council for International Cooperation on Environment and
Development is convened once a year. All Bureau and Council
Members, Lead Experts and Co-Chairs of the Task Forces
participate in the Meeting. A specific theme will be selected
for the AGM, in line with which two or three keynote speakers
will be invited to make keynote speeches and have general
debates on the Theme. Representatives from relevant
departments, provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities
governed by the Central Government will be invited as special
guests to make speeches at the AGM, introducing to the
participants the implementation of the sustainable development
strategy in China. The Lead Experts will present Issues Papers
at the AGM for discussions and debates. Representatives of
donors, embassies and international organizations will be
invited as special and observers to participate in AGM.[ CCICED

| The Council Secretariat
has been established to deal with daily affairs, provide
support and service for the Task Forces and prepare the Annual
General Meeting . The Secretariat Canadian Office has been
formed at the David Lam Centre for International Communication
of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. It manages
contributions from Canadian International Development Agency
(CIDA) and some other agencies, recommends international
experts and works closely with the Secretariat to support the
Council. |
